Kinja'd!!!

Time to update the ol’ Fiesta ST build with the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Current as of January, 2019.  I should be hitting 100,000km this month or next. SAD!

I don’t daily this car, it mostly sits in my carport. I keep it fastidiously clean and maintain it as much as I possibly can.

Ultimately, my goal is to make this into a purely backroad machine. I’ve put quite a bit of money into the vehicle, obviously all that money is pissed away as mods don’t raise the value (quite the opposite), but this is hopefully a long term car.

Cost wise in terms of upgrades/labour I am at $13-$14K Canadian.

Performance Upgrades:

Mountune MR230 pack. Available as a factory option in Europe(!) this raises the cars output from 197 to 227 horsepower and from 202 ft.lb to 250 ft.lb of torque. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . In the North American market, you can order it aftermarket from the Ford Performance catalog. The package includes an upgraded dual feed airbox, a high flow 200 cell sport catted down-pipe, a 2.5 inch cat back exhaust, new piping (silicone), a bigger charge pipe, an upgraded intercooler and a tune.

Kinja'd!!!

MR230 Pack

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Triple Pass Radiator: The Fiesta ST tends to overheat (it has been recalled for this) so this was not only a performance upgrade, but one that meant I could drive it during the summer. Radiator construction and size is greatly improved.

Kinja'd!!!

RS-R Brake upgrade. A little boost in braking power. Stainless steel lines, a bit more of an aggressive pad.

Kinja'd!!!

Roll Restrictor/Rear Motor Mount. Improves the handling quite a bit.

Kinja'd!!!

Sparco Assetto Gara Rims (17inch). Lighter than stock, less “boy racer”. I like the conservative black spokes. Easy to clean brake dust off wheel and calipers.

Kinja'd!!!

Spraco Assetto Gara

Mountune Quickshift, reduces the throw by 30%. Crisp clean shifts.

Kinja'd!!!

Mountune/Radium Catchcan system and petcock valve kit to catch blowby.

Kinja'd!!!

Rally light set up. Rally innovations fabricated light plate and with four Baja Designs XL Sport Spot Lights.

Kinja'd!!!

!!! UNSUPPORTED LINE BREAK IN HEADER !!!

That looks amazing. Hopefully the remaining mod process is silky smooth

They only come in white though. And while that looks great on JawzX2's “Project Creamsicle” ( https://oppositelock.kinja.com/creamcicle-1776662496 ) I am not sure it would look good with my stripes.

Dont do black wheels please! More importantly though just make sure they are as lightweight as you possibly want to afford. And keep in mind that using the RE050A is going to occlude you from being in a “street” class in an SCCA autocross, or any others that adopt their classing since it is less than 200TW. At that point, I would rather run sub 100TW slicks for the race days and a street tire that will last longer for twisty mountain roads and such.

Any aesthetic mods planned? I can’t think anything I had in mind but just curious if that is something you would want to get involved in. And what sort of roll bar/cage are you going for? I imagine that would be a race series specific thing to need.

Engine mounts seem to make a big difference, they’re also cheap and easy to install.

Hmm. I like your plan! If you end up needing more cooling, adding ducts to the hood (in the correct place) is the easiest way to do it. Probably not an issue unless you swap in a larger turbo and start tracking in somewhat hot weather.

Uh... If you add a cage and start removing weight, definitely ditch the stock seats. You’ll save a ton of weight switching to buckets and the level of car control goes up a ton with all the extra bolstering!

I wouldn’t strip your interior, it’s not worth the weight benefits. I stripped everything I could off my SC and it was still 3400 pounds last time I weighed it.(down from 36-3700)

Interior panels don’t weigh much, maybe take them out strip the sound deadning and put them all back? Could cut 10-15 lbs. To shave weight id suggest Light weight seats, light wheels(Kosie makes some very light wheels in fiesta sizes). On the extreme side coilovers tend to weigh less than oem struts, and weight could be removed from the front axle by going to manual steering.

I digress the current plan looks good, lsd, wheels, stiffness. Maybe look into x braces and such before the nuclear option of a rollbar

I don’t plan on ever upgrading the power output past what its at.

Unless, they bring the Mr265 upgrade over from Europeland. https://www.mountunestore.com/products/mr265-power-upgrade-kit

Why not black rims? Too basic? The RE050A’s are stock, does that count for anything?

No aesthetic mods planned. Well... I fantasize about a wrap one day. I want the O’Neil Rally Fiesta livery. Without the #brands of course.

I also looked into the strip out. It only saves 140lbs. Your right, not really worth it. I can just go on a diet and boot my wife out to achieve that.

I think the problem with black wheels is that they disappear into the tires and just look the same whether they are steel wheels or a nice alloy. It is the lack of color that kind of makes them look boring at best or potentially an eye sore. Even a grey like in that image ends up fine since it has a little bit of brightness to it.

And a wrap would be sweet, cant hurt to protect the paint longer anyways. But I am still mad we didnt get the 2 door FIST on this side of the pond. This car is just so much better with two less doors! Reminds me more of the SVT Focus.

It’s impossible to stop the mod bug once you start. I told myself I’d be done after a reflash and an exhaust... the “stage 2" (intake/catless DP) parts are all in a bookmarks folder, waiting for the right (wrong?) impulsive moment...

Looks like a lot of fun, both the modding and the car!

OZ Alleggerita is always the answer to all lightweight questions.

Kinja'd!!!

Lots of colours as well to match your ideas, though I really like the standard Titanium, as it doesn’t show dirt nor brake dust at all.

I’ll look into the Alleggeritas! My concern with O.Z. is cost, especially with the exchange rate and 12% duty. Not sure if it is worth saving 2lbs per rim over the sparcos for $100USD more per rim.

Rationally, no. But then again, modding is never a rational decision. I think I paid near to 20% of the total value of my car for my set of OZs, and don’t regret it one bit.

You’ll want to be careful with catless DP these days, tuners won’t (or shouldn’t) turn of O2's anymore. They can get in big trouble.

I believe OZ and Sparco are related in some fashion now, whether through joint effort or one owning the other. Either way, assetto gara is a pretty common choice in fost/fist world it seems. Wheel is 10 lbs. less each vs stock snowflakes on the fost.

Yup, OZ has been building Sparco’s wheels since pretty much forever I think (under license according to Wikipedia ) . I’m amazed that the stock wheels weigh that much, as the Sparcos aren’t really lightweight (still pretty light though).

A quick search netted the 30 lb. weight, not sure if that includes tires too. I don’t know why it would but who knows. Considering I want to keep it OEM+, I’m not sure if I’ll go for them. I was thinking about picking them up when my tires go as I’d be getting OEM sizing (18x8) but I may stick with the snowflakes and see how it does once the suspension work is done (if I even do it in the end)

I have daily driven it in the past, but it is just a fun car now.

Used ones can be a good deal, but I would be wary of ones with modifications or high miles

Yeah I was initially looking at Subarus, but they are overpriced and go at whatever price almost immediately after a listing is posted . Fists are around the same pricing at much lower mileage. I’m gonna test drive one here soon and see if I could comfortably drive one daily and on road trips. If not fosts are my next thought.
